Referential Treatment
A Nashville 12 South home goes contemporary without losing sight of the neighborhood’s historic legagcy.   It only takes one glance to tell something different is going on.    Once you refocus beyond what initially caught your eye- the sun glinting off the tin-clad eaves, maybe, or the zen-inspired landscaping courtesy of Anne Daigh with Page Duke Landscaping- you realize that almost none of it is as contemporary as it first seemed.  It’s an optical illusion.  The architect that successfully designed a home was Stephen Wells.

In the 12 South Neighborhood of Nashville TN, Craftsman cottages and half-height Victorians tend to dominate.  Not so in this Halcyon home.  Tucked snugly into a corner lot amid a smattering of homes in various stages sits this tidy, shotgun-style home–one room deep, and long.  The clean lines and mix of materials manage to simultaneously fit into the neighborhood and stand alone.

A peek inside the “pool room”- it opens onto the patio and pool area outside- with its bamboo and jute grass cloth wallpaper by Phillip Jeffries.   In the foyer and hall is a antique Jerusalem Stone in a Versailles pattern.  This old stone, gives warmth to a contemporary home.

By foregoing wall-hung cabinets,  more counterspace was gained, and promotes the Calacatta Beveled Brick Marble tiles to a major decorative role.
